I loved the first instalment of this series but then I loved the second one even more! Many of the themes of the first book are deepened and explored further, especially the complex relationship between the two main characters (and it’s wonderful to see older women and an established relationship as central to a story). And then there’s the plot which is surprising and exciting and full of twists and turns, all the supernatural shenanigans you could wish for! The mix of established and new characters worked really well, especially with Maisie as the link between them, and I was totally here for more of Maisie’s sharp wits and loyalty and very happy to see her make a friend.

Overall a pacy, compelling story with real heart and I’m already looking forward to the next one.
