You say: Get me some coverage

Traditional media relations remains enormously significant. Social media can be a blessing for individuals and organisations, but also can be a savage beast. Understanding how different forms of communication must work together is more important than ever. Does your organisation have a policy and a strategy?

You say: We did what?  Who are we going to call?

I have many years experience in calm handling of crises and difficult issues. Working at Great Ormond Street Hospital, this covered everything from untoward deaths, the Cardiac Wing being on fire, and even staff members accused of criminal acts.  I can work with you on a particular project. Better still, engage me to help you improve your crisis plan, train your staff and test your response systems.

You say: Will anyone understand this?

I have expertise in scientific and medical PR and turning other complex material into accurate and accessible copy. I promoted breakthroughs in gene therapy, stem cells, and separating conjoined twins. Researchers loved my work because it was accurate, journalists loved it because it was clear, but never over-claimed.

You say: How can we make this happen?

‘Strategy is the difference between being busy and being effective’

Strategy needs to support long term business objectives. At Great Ormond Street I used PR to kill unhelpful narratives and support a five-fold increase in fundraised income. I’ve carried out a wide range of corporate comms matters such as three successful public consultations at Great Ormond Street, a successful rebrand at Education and Training Foundation, etc.

You say: I want my people to be able to do it.

I do training. I’ll share my experience and work with you through real life and fictional scenarios to strengthen your work.

You say: Oh no, a media interview!

I offer media training. Even when you know your subject, a media interview can be an anxious experience. At Great Ormond Street, I prepared individuals for challenging interviews. I have been a media spokesman and once debated controversialist Richard Littlejohn live on TV.

You say: can a novelist help me?

I’ve written everything from fundraising copy to a widely praised debut novel. Some specifically writing services are here.
